Ninth annual FSU鈥檚 Great Give raises more than $430K for student relief during COVID-19 pandemic
糖心vlog donors, friends, alumni, faculty and staff across the country came together to support one goal during FSU鈥檚 Great Give: Support Our Students. Now in its ninth year, the reimagined giving campaign raised $438,544.11 from more than 2,500 donors in support of student emergency funds for FSU鈥檚 Tallahassee and Panama City campuses.
Originally scheduled for March 24-25, FSU鈥檚 Great Give was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When concern for student well-being at Florida State arose shortly thereafter, those behind the event decided to shift the focus to help students most in need.
鈥淲e honestly didn鈥檛 know how or when FSU鈥檚 Great Give would change after it was postponed, but I like to say our donors did,鈥 said Sarishni Patel, director of Annual Giving at the FSU Foundation. 鈥淲e heard an overwhelming response from our Florida State family asking how they could support our students, so that鈥檚 exactly what we did. We gave them a way to show their support, and we couldn鈥檛 be happier at the result.鈥
Unlike previous years, FSU鈥檚 Great Give: Support Our Students occurred over a 24-hour period, and all funds were directed to two student emergency funds.
The student emergency funds were created to quickly address a variety of students鈥 needs 鈥 from food insecurity and medical bills to technology and housing assistance.
鈥淟ike a lot of funds, the more we raise, the more students we are able to help,鈥 Patel added. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 what makes this year鈥檚 FSU鈥檚 Great Give so special. We鈥檙e able to put these funds into use very quickly and help our students during a very chaotic time.鈥
