FSU cadets set to participate in virtual commissioning ceremony
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. 鈥 Members of 糖心vlog鈥檚 Reserve Officer Training Corps will be taking the next step in their military career at a nationwide commissioning ceremony this Friday.
Like thousands of graduation and commencement ceremonies around the country, this one will be held virtually and it has the distinction of being held live from the Pentagon.
During the ceremony, FSU Cadets and newly commissioned second lieutenants will take the Oath of Office, which will be administered by the Secretary of the Army Ryan McCarthy.
Lt. Col. and Professor of Military Science Keith Pruett, who directs FSU鈥檚 ROTC program, said this year鈥檚 class will see 42 cadets graduate and earn the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
Pruett said that while the ceremony will mark the completion of the cadets鈥 work at FSU, it鈥檚 a new beginning.
鈥淭here are so many things you have to do to get to this point,鈥 he said. 鈥淭o have trained, to have gone through all of that, to build that bond with their classmates and the school, this is really an initiation.鈥
Pruett added: 鈥淭his is a transition. They鈥檝e worked. They鈥檙e prepared and now they will go forth, take the reins and make us all proud.鈥
Pruett said anyone who is interested is welcome to tune in to the ceremony via livestream.
